Thank you! I’ve been wondering, very frustratedly, the same exact thing but hadn’t ever put it so concisely. The whole “blackmail” hypothesis is just giving these shitheads an excuse, like, “they’d surely do the right thing, but they’re being forced to be evil, against their will, poor things.
