Yeah, there is often some sort of poorly remembered, badly expressed, and usually exaggerated kernel of something factlike behind his statements.
It is certainly not the case that everybody in the military has an authoritarian mindset. But it can be a comfortable place for those that do. The clear chain of command, the simplistic reduction of conflict to us versus them, and the fact that the central enterprise is about the use of force are all going to appeal to those with authoritarian beliefs. OTOH, Trump’s dishonesty and his strictly transactional nature are anathema to the military mindset of shared hardship and self-sacrifice.
