I want to believe this, but experience says that only holds for the generation that lived through it. If it were otherwise, the experience of WWII should have seared that lesson into us forever. Obviously it did not.

Yeah… I can see it from my apartment on a clear day, and the office building where I worked is only a couple of blocks away from it (back when I was going into the city everyday.)
I look at it and all I see is an enormous, overpriced glass peen.
