While this change is… odd… to say the least, Twitter has also been regularly engaging in mass bans of trolls with a recent purge that was huge, they’ve been working on ways to track and block trolls who get banned and use a new disposable email address to sign up, changed some algorithms to drop trolls to the bottom of replies (which has helped defang Trump’s Twitter account), and have been doing other work on various fronts to ty to manage harassment. It’s not like this change is the only thing they’ve done. This change is well worth mocking for what it is, and the recent threading/reply changes have some regressions well worth griping about, but they have been been gaining some ground on the trolls with recent changes. They’re cheap lazy bastards who won’t pay mods and instead just try algorithmic fixes to human problems, are still far too forgiving due to their moronic “the free speech wing of the free speech party” idea, and that’s well worth griping about, but we should keep our complaints centered in reality.
