“San Francisco is a crime-ridden hellhole because police aren’t allowed to enforce laws anymore” has become an oft-used talking point by Republican haters but it’s not really the case. There’s never been any policy discouraging police from arresting folks for acts of violence. The city’s biggest problems mostly stem from gross wealth inequality excaberated by the last couple of tech booms.
