Using this Public Service Announcement as a template…
(Especially as they start rattling off a list of “customers” who happen to be legislators.)

I have a feeling most Mormons are experts at using VPN’s

I guess mormon missions are going to get really popular

Does this also apply to the vast empire of other adult sites owned by the same company? Offhand, I seem to remember redtube and xhamster are also the same people. No doubt there are dozens of other sites under the same umbrella. Hilarity ensues as Utah lawmakers pursue an anti-monopoly agenda based on monolithic porn site ownership enforcing an anticompetitive policy against a probably unconstitutional age verification law

Schadenfreude… so delicious.

giving your ID card every time you want to visit

Rapidly making ID cards worthless. If you give your identity bone-fides to someone else, they* can now pretend to be you.

Any hints how one accomplishes this? Here comes a http(s) CONNECT (or GET) packet with an associated IP, how does one localize that to a single state in the U.S.? (“Well the chicken coop is actually in Wyoming”) Does no internet fiber cross state bounds without traffic (re)routing? And (while addressing that one) will this indeed allow the reverse blackout in the form of Montana blocking TikTok? (“so much for moribund Net Neutrality … -sigh-”)

And there’s bound to be a false positive where someone in a neighbouring state gets pornhub blocked because something somewhere got something wrong.

Did the people who make his law have shares in a VPN company? Or a moderately successful You Tube channel which has just taken on the very obvious sponsorship now Raid Shadow Legends have stopped answering the phone?

There are lots of ways to do that, and it’s actually pretty common practice - not being able to access British Netflix outside of Britain, for example. Of course it’s all easily gotten around with the VPN.

As far as TikTok goes, I’m assuming that TikTok would do the same in Montana to avoid problems, as opposed to Montana implementing a great firewall. Also easily gotten around. Also that app stores will geofence Montana so that TikTok is not available in the store in those regions. So really it’s going to look more like Escape from New York in that everyone outside will build a wall around Montana.

What I am wondering with the Montana thing is when are we going to see our first arrests of teenagers in Montana who have posted videos to TikTok? That’s going to be such a good look!

Utah is going to be more edgy than usual this Summer.

Maybe now they will relax some of those weird alcohol rules.

I assume that this will result in a vast reduction of edging in Utah! Maybe a huge increase in soaking?

Redtube displays the same video and message that Pornhub does, the theming is just changed.
xHamster has a popup requiring you to use a device with a camera to verify your age.
xvideos just puts you right through to the site.

Those are the only ones I checked.

Oh yes…research

Seriously though Wikipedia lists all of the sites that MindGeek owns, if you want to check to see what they are doing about this

I assume you are VPNing to check?

Yeah.

So of the still active sites on that list:
Pornhub, PornMD, RedTube, YouPorn all show the same video accompanied by a message.

Reality Kings, Digital Playground, Men .com, Sean Cody, Brazzers, Twistys, WhyNotBi .com, Mofos Network, Babes Network show the same message without the accompanying video.

Interesting Netflix documentary about the history of PornHub and how Mindgeek runs things - or rather, doesn’t.

Yes! That documentary is great! I posted a link to a review of it at…the Verge maybe?..a while ago over in the workers rights thread!
