Nah, I called it a “feel good” project because the technology is nowhere near advanced to even begin to approximate a living organism. Heck, even cadavers have giant glaring differences in how the tissue reacts.
My argument is that as long as there are animals being euthanized at shelters, they can be euthanized in a humane manner that allows them (unknowingly) to contribute to creating skilled surgeons that can help minimize the suffering of other more fortunate animals.
And trust me, it pains EVERY vet student to know that their surgical animal will be euthanized. Some of my classmates sat with their dead animal crying after a surgery lab. And to a “T”, I know that everyone’s favorite lab was the spay/neuter one because those animals lived, and were fated to be adopted.
