And it doesn’t work. Most of these beaches are back where they were in a couple of years. It is a mug’s game. The Corps of Engineers tried mightily, with the full weight of the federal government, to stabilize the shore around Hatteras. In the end, they were forced to pick up the historic lighthouse and move it back.
