The real solution is to design social networks to promote exploration and discovery, rather than polarization. That is, stop willfully creating filter bubbles that parrot people’s opinions back to them and push content that may serve to challenge, create a dialog or connect users from different backgrounds.
Then hate speech will be less of a problem.
