I can fully imagine that he might have thought of and even suggested taking them there until an aide explained that the players don’t expect to have to pay for the food since he’s hosting them. The aides have probably gotten tired of trying to explain things to him based on the ethics or the optics and just tell him bad decisions aren’t profitable.
