I always felt like this is not Trump’s actual position*. He adopted the anti-choice position to suck up to evangelicals, but the problem was, Trump didn’t really know the actual details of the position, so he’d make something up that he thought was consistent when asked. Which led to him saying this but not knowing he was going beyond what evangelicals would admit to wanting. (Obviously many anti-choice evangelicals do want women jailed, but they’ve been very careful not to say it in public.)
*He’s historically been pro-choice in that he doesn’t want any women he gets pregnant having children he’ll be responsible for - but he also doesn’t personally care what the laws are and how they impact others, assuming (correctly) that his wealth can except him and his.
