I’d say “destroying rational discourse itself” is at the very least a side-effect, assuming no ideological motives on Carlson’s part - but I think he also does have ideological motives. He’s doing stuff (like fluffing Hungarian fascism) that isn’t just about playing to his viewership, but also pushing them in certain directions.
