I think it’s even simpler than that. He’s realised that the more outrageous he his, the more exposure and votes he gets.
All of the topics that modern politicians have learned to steer clear of, he has found that he can use to his advantage.
Right now he could probably claim to rape babies daily and his polling numbers would still go up.
