When golden-age science fiction and Scientology parted ways

To quote the wonderful Iain M Banks:

The problem no-one really wants to talk about is the lack of literary craftsmanship and storytelling ability and the overwhelming half-educated cleverness of it all. It’s all idea work and the further you get from the time the ideas were exciting, the more you’re left with 400-word nerd paragraphs about Future Space History or My Fetishes Are Justified By Sociology.
