No, I am certainly not predicting any AI overlord scenario. We can’t even effectively define what “consciousness” is. There may already be some primitive sort of awareness there already. But somewhere between sea squirt and Reed Richards, where is it, and would we recognize it if it were? To me it is an interesting thought experiment, but no way to actually carry out the experiment or even verify the data. Until we have a verifiable N of 2, in my humble opinion it remains only a thought experiment.
