Not being American, I assumed that referring to this organization as “Kampgrounds” rather than “Campgrounds” was a pointed, satirical comment. Imagine my surprise and confusion to learn that is their actual name?! I guess that the “K” was for reasons of trade marking, but it does seen tone deaf (unless it was a dog whistle back then).

I do see this as subtextual. I’ve had some experiences where the little town has two bars, say, and inevitably it’s “Kountry Korner” (or whatever) that is the racist one. It’s so normalized that it might not be a reliable signal, but it’s definitely something real.
