non democrats like to “remind” us that “the united states is a republic, not a democracy”. And then I like to think of Rome.
I’m sure that Mark Miller had some historical antecedents in mind when he designed the Third Imperium.
That when you remind them that the USSR and North Korea are both considered republics.

IB is darn close, I have timed about a dozen American football games from snap to tackle, average was 15 1/2 minutes of action in a 3.5 hour telecast.

PAK v ENG - 1st Test 1977. Nazar and Boycott at their very best, breaking records for run-rates all round . Nail-biting stuff. Boycs 63 off 267 is something that’s never likely to be equaled.

Momentarily taking this seriously: the best cricket I’ve ever seen was Shane Warne slowly tearing South Africa apart on the SCG over two days, in a match where the South Africans were 100% playing for the draw and had no interest in scoring at all.
IIRC, one of the best SA batsmen had strained his groin earlier in the match. So Warne gave him about an hour’s straight worth of deliveries that he could block easily…so long as he took a big stretch down the pitch into a forward defence. By the end of it, the poor dude was almost screaming with every ball; when he finally fell, it was likely suicide.

There was another one like that couple years later, too. 2012 in Adelaide, Faf du Plessis batting for the draw for nearly 8 hours solid. Siddle looking like he was about to keel over with every ball, just an epic match.

China is a republic too. All republic means is the head of state isn’t an inherited position.
America chooses it’s head of state by a form of democracy (admittedly flawed by design), therefore it is also a democracy.
For now, at least.

It’d be neat to see what that does to T’s ego if, instead of covering what the press conference was intending to get across, you publish interviews and bios of the clappers.
