I believe the same thing happens with Islam. Islam in Mali is different from Islam in Turkey, which is different from Islam in Somalia, which is different from Islam in Iran, which is different from Islam in Indonesia, etc. Then you get these interlopers who say “you’re doing it wrong.” Al-Shabab vis-a-vis Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a.
I figure Buddhism in Tibet is different from that in Japan, but I’ve not heard about any conflict between the two. Presumably Jews in North Africa had a different approach than those in Yemen, Ethiopia or Poland.
