There are different forms of Buddhism, just as there are different forms of Christianity.
And yes, there are differences in beliefs/worship between Ashkenasim, Sephardim, Mizrahim, etc. Ethiopian Jews (prior to relocating to Israel) were pre-Talmudic, which was particularly fascinating.
