What Godwin unintentionally did was provide cover for people who can be legitimately compared to the Nazis. Trump could be loading people into trains and sending them to “work camps” and comparisons to the Nazis would still have people saying “Godwin” in response. Someone asked Trump if he was concerned that more and more people are comparing him with Hitler and he just said, “No.” He isn’t because such comparisons have been completely discredited, even when they are reasonable.
