Once in a phone conversation the person I was talking to said something about her boss and I said, “Is he having a bad day?” As soon as the word left my mouth I felt like a jackass, and even worse when she informed me her boss was a woman.
Almost every boss I’ve ever reported to has been a woman which means I have even less excuse. But I do wish we had nice gender neutral pronouns. I’m not comfortable calling anybody “it”.
