A unit constructed of clear plastic was prepared so that the arrangement of magnets could be seen and to demonstrate that the device operated without external power sources.[8][27] The public demonstration was delayed and then cancelled because of technical difficulties. Steorn initially said that the problems had been caused by excessive heat from the lighting[8][28] but later blamed the failure on damage done to bearings due to a greenhouse effect within the box.[29]

One good rule of thumb: If you have an understanding of a concept that would allow it to create a perpetual motion machine, then you are misunderstanding the concept.

This is why I don’t think we’ll ever see a gravity shield for instance. We just seem to be trapped by thermodynamics, there’s no escape.
