Came here to say words to this effect. Pete Seeger was a hero… the problem isn’t with him, it’s with the way that ‘communist’ has become a curse in American.
I went to high school towards the end of the Cold War. The school librarian was a retired army colonel. He put all the books about China in the fiction section, because the Chinese are Communists and we don’t believe in Communism.
Now I wish I could’ve brought a Chinese gong to school to show him.
I wonder if it was a fallen gong?
Oh no! I bought two xuns, a xiao, and a dizi when I was in China. I had no idea that that would forever mark me as ideologically impure.
Not to defend the FBI, but since they were already of the opinion that Seeger was a communist, the clipping provides leads-- where did he go; whom did he meet, and so on?
