In traditional legal use, assault is" the act of putting another person in reasonable fear or apprehension of an immediate battery by means of an act amounting to an attempt or threat to commit a battery." (Black’s Law Dictionary). Why then do we say “sexual assault” when, by traditional usage, we ought to be talking about “sexual battery.” Beats me. There must be some history behind that choice.
