Colour is how our mind/brain interprets electro-chemical signals (mostly) received via the optic nerve, from the retinas. It’s a purely mental phenomena, as the physical world does not actually possess colour, only varying frequencies of light bouncing off and/or being absorbed by things.

Color is not just for humans! I suspect that tetrachromatic creatures find it even more interesting.
