A profile of Moxie Marlinspike: the seagoing anarchist cryptographer who brought private messaging to millions

Welcome, Astroturfer.

Thanks! He grows from a good story teller but mediocre writer to a very good story teller and writer. Never knew, and really enjoyed his stories. For a good laugh and with two stories tears.
Would love it if he is going to write more.

Agree. I spent a lot of time in his sort of circumstances when I was wee. Reading some of his stories is a bit like remembering good times I never had.

You know, I remember some nearly the same stories, not as such good times. Also the sailing , have more experience in that, as a child, than you want to know.
But later in life, mountain climbing is strange enough not really different. Mountains are like the sea really great, really non forgiving.

My da taught me how to sail when I was a lad / one of the very few things we ever did together. A couple years back I took a 55’ out with some “friends” around the BVI. The trip between Virgin Gorda & Anguilla was, for me only, the best part of the entire two week trip. We hit a storm, but due to an injury I can detect barometric changes better than the weather service - so we were well prepared. It got so bad that the entire crew, including the captain got sea-sick & more than once we were hit by rogue waves - really just out of sequence ones where the waves are going at a right angle to the wind and every so often it’ll create a monster that covered the entire boat. Everyone was fearing for their lives & I - conversely- had the best nights sleep of my entire life. Only waking when the ship tacked & I’d roll from one end of my bunk to the other.

I think you might understand when I say that I’m happiest/ most at peace when I’ve crossed the line into a “self-rescue” situation. It’s also where I perform at my best and often when everyone around me seems to be losing their shit.
