For what you get, they are much cheaper in my experience. I admit I am not a fan of the hotel experience to begin with, probably because I never used to stay at hotels when I was young.
If I have the choice of a whole apartment to myself where I can cook, do laundry etc. and a cramped hotel room where the roomservice will bother me every morning I would go for the apartment if they were the same price.
My experience though has been that a decent hotel is often easily twice the price of a decent Airbnb.
In that case, I wouldn’t have a problem with the hotel option.
Yes, that’s my impression as well. That said, I have had many nice trips with my wife in recent years and we never had a bad Airbnb experience. So far, I haven’t seen any online video of us either.
