Alan Turing to be Pardoned

Surprised none of the editors have put up a post about this.

I am not sure how to feel about this - obviously it’s an attempt to (in some small way) put right a great wrong, but Turing was guilty of breaking the law that was on the books - pardoning him seems to me to suggest he didn’t do it, rather than what would be preferable to me, which would be to retroactively remove the law and quash all convictions.

Still, it’s a step in the right direction.

Surprising it took this long, frankly.

Better to set things right very, very late than never.

And as you point out, it could help indicate a smidgen of official support for gay rights and same-sex marriage, too.

I’m with you. He should be pardoned, but not just because he happened to contribute more to society than most homosexuals. EVERYONE convicted under this unjust law deserves to have their criminal record purged.
