America today feels like the last days of the Soviet Union

Obligatory:

Not my idea of “fun,” at all.

Otherwise, you are absolutely correct; sadly.

Again, your argument about his supposed effectiveness comes down to his supposed popularity. I’ll bite: He couldn’t even get America energized to vote for him in sufficient numbers to win the primary the last time around. I get that you like him. I get that a lot of people like him. I don’t mind him, though nothing you’ve said has moved the needle for me on his ability to be an effective president. But a lot of people actively don’t like him. And even more people REALLY dislike Berniebros, and there is no quicker way to turn off potential allies in a fight for expanding healthcare options than to do what you’re doing here, which is snark inaccurately about his record.

Have the last word if you like. I won’t be reading it.

There are a number of socialist/communist states I would encourage you to read up on:

Cuba - History of colonialism, the Cuban Revolution, US sanctions and attempted coups.
Chile - Salvador Allende and nationalization of copper, US sanctions, US backed rightwing terrorism and coup by Pinochet.
Nicaragua - Current attempt at US backed rightwing terrorism and coup.
Venezuela - Attempted US backed rightwing coup in 2002 (failed) and now.

There is a pattern among South American countries:

  1. Brutally exploited by corporations / colonial powers.
  2. Popular revolt and/or election that establishes communist/socialist state.
  3. Quality of life improves massively (literacy, healthcare, safety net).
  4. US implements sanctions to “make their economy scream”.
  5. Quality of life falls, but still better than pre-communism/socialism.
  6. US funds rightwing paramilitary to terrorize the population, and then covers the violence between the paramilitary and state as oppression, and between the paramilitary and other citizens as deterioration.
  7. US backs a fascist rightwing coup.
  8. Rightwing government dismantles state, genocides leftists, reopens country for exploitation.

For multiple obvious reasons, the US has a vested interest in making sure communist countries fail and do so in the most bloody way possible, while minimizing its own hand.

Here’s a question on that fact: What year was the first time US troops were sent in to overthrow a country that was socialist or communist? Answer below … don’t look!

Answer: 1918

You glibly and ignorantly have ignored the many myriad clandestine “police action” and Vickery committed by the US. For what possible reason did you not address the points made by @jproffitt71?

:thinking::thinking::thinking:

Oh, right: because the US government is run by imperialists who bombed, sabatoged, suborned, destablized and decamped sovereign nations so a fucking private company could make a few more bucks. The US has a history of this going waaaaay back and continuing to the present.
