Yep, the “fast” versus “slow” thinking hypothesis comes to mind, for one - and habit is incredibly powerful in getting stuff done with minimum effort.
But yeah, coming back to measuring intelligence, I would probably stick with various tasks - generalized problem solving etc. Still, that doesn’t really explain what intelligence is - it just attempts to measure what it does. I suppose you’d have to include a number of clever ways to throw off workarounds, which might get really tricky to do properly.
