Well, whether he would choose to talk openly, semi-openly, un-guardedly, or clam up completely is essentially unknowable, isn’t it.
What we do know for certain is that executing him ensured that he never had the opportunity to talk openly, semi-openly, or un-guardedly. He’d be in his early 60s by now, and would have spent getting on for a decade in prison, with the prospect of nothing but several more decades of the same ahead of him. It’s funny what an extended period of isolation from society can do to once firmly held intentions.
Look, if he used his porn stash for communicating instead of (or as well as) fapping is a prurient red herring. Unless the NSA or NSAalikes broke the encryption years ago, knowing it now is about as useful as finding out where U-Boats were 75 years ago. It’s an interesting intellectual exercise and thought experiment, but it’s not going to change anything. There are a thousand other more meaningful conversations that could have been had, such as the nature of radicalisation, the extent of support provided by various governments or their agencies, or perhaps a detailed insight into the bird life of the Hindu Kush. Now, not so much.
Considering the article is about a big porn stash, shaking your fist in the air must take a lot of discipline.
