You’re right, my brain broke on that one.
I’m not sure how one could read it in any other way. At least not without putting in some real effort or evincing some serious reading comprehension problems. The YouTube comments section or Facebook or Twitter would really be more accomodating platforms than BoingBoing BBS for such users.
On a related note, the amount of thought that the Discourse designers put into their system (in this instance the Trust Levels) continues to impress.
Trans people aren’t biased about our lives - we’re the most informed about them and are the only ones who deserve agency over our lives.
Looking for others to speak for us and in opposition to what we say our lived experience is is just saying that we don’t deserve autonomy.
Most people probably don’t inject as much venom into the word “enlightened” as I do.
At this point, I’m going to go with @Melizmatic on this one and call BS. For someone who claims to be “pro-choice” you have consistently used the arguments and terminology of the anti-abortion movement in your posts. That’s consistent with someone who’s only posting here to stir up shit, and also with your vacillation about playing devil’s advocate/actually believing what you’re posting.
You’re right of course, no one understands trans people better than trans people.
I was referring to studies into suicide rates pre and post op, instances of abuse, things like that.
Or if that’s even relevant. I just don’t know.
I do know that I would never advocate for anything less than equal treatment and recognition. If I put myself in your shoes, I know what I would want.
Also since this topic will close soon, I apologize for bringing up the question of mental illness as it relates to trans people. Throwing things like that around is pretty shitty, sorry I just realized it.
@KathyPartdeux I can’t answer your post, I’m past my limit, but you can ask any question you like. I can’t promise I’ll answer though.
I get your point I suppose, sorry if you feel like I’m treating trans people like a curiosity. I’m not trying to offend you.
I have to second this sentiment since I’ve delayed my transition for well over a decade because cis folks keep saying I couldn’t be trans because X, Y, or Z bs reason (too masculine looking/acting, too big, etc). Having my identity, let alone my body, treated as a public curiosity isn’t something I should be subjected to or anyone else for that matter. Whether cis folks like it or not, my body is mine and trying to ‘debate’ me into not doing what will make me feel most comfortable in it isn’t going to make me their friend. If anything, it’s just gonna make me shun them forever.
What kind of “just asking questions” should we ask about you?
SURE
but it’s not HELPFUL to claim that one’s own position is more “nuanced” than the other guy’s, or that more nuanced positions are more correct
it’s kind of an irrelevant detail
this comic shows what you’ve kind of been sounding like through this whole discussion, i hope you can understand why–
I am sorry, the exact opposite is my intention.
I will go upthread and add something to make that clear, but leave my snark like it was.
ETA:
Tried. But ain’t satisfied.
This whole topic revolves around normative issues. And it makes me sad.
Comment of the year.
Nope. Their biological function in the process is different, and them’s the breaks.
This is a case where literal “equal rights” between genders breaks down. Because there is no parity in their biological roles.
Now a disingenuous arguer might try and seize upon this fact to creep in ideas about “Women are Nurturing and Men are Providers” (which has no genetic basis), but you are not one of those I assume.
Right?
