Buildings and Buildings' Accessories

Nobody who has their head screwed on the right way would have a porch without some sort of swing. That’d be just crazy and unnatural.

This reminded me of the old Kanzlerbungalow in Bonn.

Erhard wanted something open, modern and modest. A deliberate and demonstrative break from palatial mansions and, God forbid, the Neue Reichskanzlei. Architecture as a political statement.
But it wasn’t really designed for a family with children. Which was fine for couples like the Erhards, the Kiesingers and the Schmidts, and it’s why Willy Brandt used it only for ceremonial events. Kohl, being the cheapskate that he was, made his family live there.

The glass wall facing the Rhine was a bulletproof addition in the late 1970ies when West Germany had a spot of bother with domestic terrorists. But at least they chose something transparent.

The bungalow is open to the public as part of the Haus der Geschichte - or is scheduled to be open next year after the ongoing renovation work is finished. I’m almost positive that it will be within the original timeframe and budget.

The similarities are unmistakable. The Farnsworth house was designed by Mies van der Rohe in the late 1940’s. This house looks like the Barcelona Pavillion designed by him.

Eight injured, one dead.

In a similar incident, a section of roof at Jabalpur airport in the central Madhya Pradesh state also collapsed on Friday. There were no injuries.

… The estate, now [for] sale for $19.6 million, is located on 66 acres among the Scandicci countryside. The villa was constructed around 1300 and by 1498 was owned by the Giocondo family, not long before Leonardo painted Lisa. It eventually passed to the Antinori family, from which it derives its name as the Villa Antinori di Monte Aguglioni.

Complete with four floors, the villa is roughly 43,000 square feet, including 14 bedrooms and 15 full baths. An entrance through an iron gate leads to a cypress-lined path into the garden and service entrance. It also boasts an entrance hall, five lounges, a dining room, a library, and an at-home gym, as well as also staff quarters, an elevator, a second floor terrace, and an antique iron veranda. …
