CES-goer says his camera was killed by a self-driving car's LIDAR

If you want your camera to record limited IR you can take off the IR block filter. My son has done this. You can block out the regular visible light with some exposed colour film, which is almost transparent at 900 nm. I doubt this guy did that with his new Canon camera, but it is possible.

Yep. and its quite easy, done that with my casio fc100.

whatever you say, wilmore; wanna see some examples that I shot with my $5K+ casio fc100 point-and-shoot-digi from 2009, which I bought off ebay for 25 bucks?

and one with a IR-filter-glass from an old slide-projektor

yep. done that too. works like a charm if you want to avoid the hassle to remove the internal IR-filter in front of the sensor. only downside is the much longer exposure-time.
