Except for where it wasn’t just a “fuck off, we don’t wanna” quote, but the city actually saying “this is too expensive because of the location, so we don’t think we should waste money on it.”
As a datapoint, $10K is about how much it costs to get a four-person forestry regeneration crew to do fairly intensive work (one day/week; you can’t rush the plants) on a site for three months. Which is about how long it takes to turn around a moderately damaged site.
So, one set of stairs (not including labour), one less un-fucked forest.
