The copyright status of those works under state law is not as cut-and-dried as you may think. It varies by state, but state law isn’t as expansive as federal copyright. Most states don’t even have a public performance right under state law.
There are things that federal law could do to improve the situation for everyone, but this is definitely not it.

That’s the baby boomers logic. I won’t be around then, I have 1 foot in the grave and one hand in the pocket of each of our legislators.
Maybe we need a constitutional amendment clarifying that corporations don’t get the same rights as people. Oh, and that we’re going metric. No more of this gross base 12 system.
