Sure. You are free to have eclectic and idiosyncratic understanding of words. But it mightn’t be wise to expect the rest of the world to share them.
For most people it makes no odds if the family home is a house, a cave, a castle, or a rented apartment. It’s home, and it’s where they grew up as a family. Hence “family home,” and not “family house”.
