This is great advice, but step 0 should really be to make sure you have whole-disk encryption for your phone and laptop. Journalists are at risk of device seizure much more than the average joe.
If you’re going to use biometrics to protect it, use your knuckle or something instead of your fingerprint, so that even if they compel you to put your fingers on the device, it still won’t unlock. Even better, don’t use biometrics for unlocking your device at all.
Also! If you’re taking pics/video, take them with software that will automatically stream it off of your device.
