Was going to say this: only Maldivans I’ve known have been reluctant immigrants here and think tourism is destroying their country. Even if it is the industry their family works in.
In the theoretical case that this was a global warming protest, is it worth a lot of inconvenience to try to raise awareness about something that definitely will kill lots of people? I’m not sure I can simply ignore that and say it’s not the right way to do it.
To paraphrase general Turgidson; I’d like to hold off judgment until all the facts are in.
Until then I’ll go with “Stupid asshole(s) who shouldn’t have access to any technology more advanced than bits of string and wet paper bags. Under adult supervision.”
Extinction Rebellion are not taking credit for this, although I wouldn’t be surprised if some evidence is manufactured.
Not the drone operators they were looking for.
They did find one drone. Forensics time!
Tingley also said that police had recovered a damaged drone on the north perimeter of the airport.
On the other hand…
Schrödinger’s drone?
UK police admit there’s a possibility there was no drone at Gatwick Airport
Is this some kind of Fight Club thing? “The first rule of Holiday Drone Hunting Club is that…”
Can that ever end well?
Wouldn’t they have sent spotting teams to the perimeter with binoculars and compass first thing? I don’t know if drones would be visible on their radar, and even if they were, you’d want visual sighting to make sure that it wasn’t something even more cheap and dirty than drones (but harmless to planes).
Eyeball 1.0 is still the best confirmation. Hard to understand how nobody can prove it either way, but I’m on the side of incompetence rather than conspiracy there.
Could still be aliens?
It’s the French knights, waving their drones in Gatwick’s general direction.
