I truly fear that he will order Tehran nuked in the next few days, then declare a state of emergency with domestic ‘dissidents’ rounded up ‘for their own protection’. Sure hope I’m wrong!

I too worry about an attack on Iran, especially considering how the US Navy has been building up forces in the Gulf. But I’m not worried about a military coup. Trump does not have the sort of ironclad support of the generals that would require. He is simply too stupid, or too convinced of his own popularity to obey the first rule of authoritarians: Keep the generals and the internal security apparatus happy.

I meant a coup by senior military staff to REMOVE him, not to perpetuate him in power.
