It’s all about generating attention, whether the behaviour is positive or negative. In a society where attention has been commoditised and assigned a monetary value, the algorithms and "AI"s (digital and/or slow) to which these creeps are appealing are incapable and uninterested in examining the difference.
I assume what’s going on here is boundary testing to see precisely how uninterested Facebook and Zuckerberg are and how weak any human and programatic counter-measures on the platform are. Whether the tr0lls are edgelord vandals, spammers, far-right agitators, or state-sponsored actors is unclear, but what is undeniable is that they’re arseholes spreading misery.

Mom endlessly, and in great detail, complained about faceschnook. Despite my repeatedly telling her I had no idea how anything worked there, she’d ask me how to fix something in it at least once a week. I kept telling her to Gogol stuff if she wanted info, but I don’t know if she ever did.
I never joined either, between her complaints, and the data thefts, and other endless fuckery that made the news on the very days I’d seriously considered signing up. That cambridge analytica bullshit put paid to any further consideration on my part. That came up on the news literally as I was about to look into joining.

I’m in a fair amount of groups where there was a large amount of “artists” posing with their art that was somehow related to the group. It all felt very manufactured to me. I think some posts were genuine but even so it seems like “seo” and was a turn off. I’m in a group for a specific boardgame and multiple times someone will post their “autistic child’s graphic design t-shirt store” that is nothing more than artwork ripped off from the actual board game. So much garbage on FB.
