You know, upon further reflection: here I am, expecting some random person on the internet to have an understanding of the judicial system better than that of the president of the United States, just as a matter of basic civic knowledge. I’m the fool.

I haven’t looked into Diaspora in a while, and I didn’t know about GNU Social. I wonder if those projects avoid the very main flaw of most open source software: crappy user documentation.
Depends on what you want to do. If you’re “just” a user then at least with GNU Social you learn it very quickly, no docs needed. Implementing on the other hand, as I know from experience…
