FCC: satellites in low-Earth orbit must fall after 5 years to clean up space

As MikeR explained, SpaceX was pushing for this regulation and starlink already meets the 5 year disposal requirement.

However, this is an area where the FCC is actually pretty powerful. If you want spectrum allocation for your satellite to operate in the US you need a license. If you want a license you follow the rules. While the FCC has had different rules for US operators vs. foreign operators that want to transmit in the US, my understanding is they are going to apply this to everyone who wants a license to transmit in the US.
