It’s easy - at least in the UK:
Gangsters are called things like “Nobber” McGee or “Slasher” Harris or if you’re going to be modern Eddy, Tom, Soap, Bacon, Dog or just initials like JD.
Bankers are called Matthew, Adam, Sir Frederick or Sir George.
Gangsters go to prison. Bankers get knighthoods and lucrative non-executive positions on the boards of other companies.
Although we did take Sir Fred’s knighthood away. Eventually.
