Fujitsu ScanSnap ix1500 -- best way to a paperless archive

Ever consider making a camera-powered scanner? A few years back I built one with support from Dan Reetz’s diybookscanner.org community, and with a different platen it performed admirably scanning photos and posters.

Streaky. I use my Scansnap for documents and it is really fast and efficient. I had hoped it would be “good enough” for quick digitizing of a bunch of 4x6 photos I have, too. Unfortunately, I find the scanner sensor gets dust on it and leaves streaks in scans of color photos - something that doesn’t seem to be an issue when I’m scanning documents. So no joy for me when scanning photos. YMMV.
