Fusion celebrates the black male friendships of The Get Down

It’s got a lot of heart and a lot of style, but I made it about halfway through the first movie-length episode and got turned off by the heightened drama of it all. Like some sort of soap opera. That doesn’t make it bad, just not a tone I’ve got a lot of patience for personally, I think.

But damn, such style.

It does pop with a lot of style to begin with. You might pick it up again, they do lead it all to a nice finish, it is predictable from episodes 1 & 2, but it keeps it’s heart and was fun to watch.

Give it another chance; the Moulin Rogue effect tapers off after the first 3 eps when Baz lets other directors have the helm…
