Oh, no doubt. I’d love it if ebook lending from libraries wasn’t such a fucking hobbled joke of a service too. Shit, I’d even pay extra for it.
End library fines.
We (librarians) hate them, and think they don’t make sense, and when we have the option, end them.

Well, quite.
The public library in the small town where I went to college didn’t have fines; instead, they posted the names of miscreants on a board of shame outside the library. Most people were very good about returning books.
If you like Baxt, I also recommend the Craig Rice novels (the ones where the detectives are Helene and Jake Justice and JJ Malone). She also screenwrote several excellent 1940s comic mystery films, and ghostwrote mysteries for George Sanders and Gypsy Rose Lee.
