Interesting how that gallery of anomalies is all bridges, where the algorithms basically don’t understand that they’re not a part of the lower topography.

Good old photogrammetry! It relates to the challenge of processing image prospective from overhead imagery. Google Earth does a generally admirable job and takes a few reasonable shortcuts for these kinds of situations (structures above the surface of the ground) that result in the anomalies sampled. For anyone who wants a more in-depth explanation see orthophoto and similar info.
