Because if by conservative social views you mean “republican,” then “honest African American” and “honest African American of conservative social views” are mutually exclusive categories.
I was just goofin’ on the Medievalist, but since you took it seriously, I thought about it. I am a professor at an HBCU, and quite a few of my colleagues are all-but Republicans. They share the GOP mainstream views on everything but race. Anyway. For what that’s worth. Also, fwiw, I wouldn’t myself describe Republicans, of that last few decades as conservative. Myself anyway. (But… if it helps to know where I’m coming from, helps interpret my rushed comment here, I was registered Socialist and Green in Iowa. In Alabama, I’m a democrat, and let’s not talk about fwiw there, as it’s not worth much at election time, sadly.)
Thanks for the clarification. I have no doubt that some Af Ams are of course Republican, and they may even “honestly” believe that Republicans somehow have the best interests of most Af Ams in mind. Having some money, especially, can delude a person like that. Not that mainstream Democratic politicians are much better about that these days.
Go HBCUs! (seriously)
