how fast is it moving? isn’t it possible it hit something and thus was slowed/sped up?
Get Betteridge in here, stat!
Naaaaa! It’s headed for Thistledown.
“Of course this is not a statement of fact but rather a question, albeit a very very interesting one.”
This will become “fact” on YT, garner 50 million hits, be linked to the Moon Landing hoax, and Bigfoot.
Thanks, Bially. Thanks, Loeb.
Really!? Where did you get that from?
It’s very polite of them to propose ‘probe’ rather than ‘kinetic kill vehicle’ as an initial possibility, isn’t it?
Any truly civilized civilization wouldn’t have any interest in us. Making, civilization-wise, has peaked and is currently regressing.
An electromagnetic cannon would recoil but not need leave a visible trail.
The aliens are a lot more alien than you’re thinking, I’m willing to wager.
Most highly evolved intelligent alien civilizations have likely already “uploaded” their consciousnesses into systems that would for all intents and purposes be significantly more interesting and diverse than what we think of as “life out here in the real world.” This effectively makes them immortal. Lots of in-flight entertainment options.
Or, alternatively, slow your processing speed down so your 100ka journey passes in a pleasant afternoons leisure.
Exactly.
Now, I think this scenario is unlikely, because the really smart upload alien cultures likely would have access to some pretty neat “APIs of the multiverse” that we do not have access to yet, which would allow for the manipulation of the multiverse at a deep, informational level. To allow for things like very, very fast travel.
But yes, even if they didn’t have that, they would be able to manipulate perception of time so dramatically, it would really not be relevant in a human kind of way.
I went back to dig out the numbers… and it looks like I maybe compared its speed at perihelion with its incoming speed. So, never mind!
